The CABOSA SU Diablos won the championship for U14Boys Division One bracket in Lafayette this weekend. Remarkably all four games we played this weekend, including the final, ended in a tie. Three of our games were tied up by goals in the final two minutes of the games, showing the determination of all teams. Luckily the ties were enough for the Diablos to make it to the D1 final as all of the other teams had losses. The final was decided by a thrilling shootout, with 16 shots being taken. On Sunday Oct 12th, the U14 boys Division One final was played by LYSA Cajun Chaos and SU Diablos. The LYSA Cajun Chaos went up 1-0 early, then SU Diablos tied it just after halftime with a close shot in goal by forward Alex Husted. With 2 minutes left in the game, the Chaos put in a long high shot just under the top goal post and over the keepers head. The Diablos came back with a vengeance and in under 30 seconds evened up the score again. Forward Evan Richie scored off a quick through ball that led to a 1VGoalie sprint. At sprint speed, Evan lobbed the ball over the Choas goalie, who was off his line, with a perfect light touch and it bounced into the goal. At games end, with the score 2-2 we went to a shootout to determine the winner. All of the other games at Moore Park had finished and the players and fans passing by stopped to watch the shootout. After 14 shots, 7 per side, with dozens of people watching all around the field John Walker Carlisle, the Diablos goalie, stepped up for his turn to kick but was denied by the Chaos goalie. John Walker earned it right back by stopping the very next shot by the Chaos. Jordan Gaudet, forward for the Diablos, put in the next one for the Diablos and then John Walker denied the 8th shot by the Choas giving SU Diablos the win! Days later the team is still talking about it, some even wore their first place medal to school on Monday. This was only the second tournament for the team. All Region III clubs know that it is difficult to do well win in and against Lafayette, to win there was great! Regardless of what the Diablos do from now on, this is one that the kids will remember for the rest of their lives. I know I will! Thanks to all who came and supported us. Make sure to show up for the Cabosa Cup this weekend in Shreveport to support the team. Learn more about the SU Diablos at their website.
